Dominant Force - Raptivity

Had a re-up request for this one. 'Criminals' on the b-side wins the prize though, thundering bassline, gets me every time.

Suggestion Of The Week - Punishing Negative Minds - Life Sentence

Brand new 45 on another dope German label, Naked Ape Records sees Swindon's finest finally getting some deserved recognition via two tracks recorded in 1992. I must admit I'd never heard of them myself until last year's excellent 'Underground United Vol. 3' dropped and both these tracks don't disappoint if you're a fan of the original UK hardcore sound. It comes in a full colour picture sleeve too, a little pricey depending on your budget but a must have seeing as it's been dug up from the vaults and presented so nicely. Disorda is the man as you'd expect but a couple of German discogs sellers can sort you out if needs be. Firin'!

Hearts Of Darkness - What You Waited For

This was their second and final single but another excellent addition to anyone's collection. I never bought one first time around but got one a few months back to complete the collection. I'm not a completist any more but both their singles are worth owning if you get the chance and they're easy pick ups these days, this one maybe more than their first. On the flip is 'Tried and Tested' which is more of the same style stuff and as far as I know all the labels were like this, the sticker on the sleeve had the track list details. I'm still spinning the LP from time to time so bag yourself one before they all go as a repress is very unlikely. Good stuff.

Silver Bullet Discount Flyer

Found my Silver Bullet discount flyer. Only three of us went to this one, think it was around 1991 and it wasn't that great. I don't think SB can be blamed though as the p.a. was dreadful and a heck of a lot of folk in there were expecting some kinda disco and not a hardcore emcee from London. I didn't go to the Definition Of Sound gig the following week though. Not really my thing. And I genuinely only just noticed that they were playing a week later. I'm sure the disco folk were more into it that Friday.

Suggestion Of The Week - Licensed To Kill - Knuckle Up

Britcore Rawmance come correct once again with a firin' 200 units only unreleased until now 45 on translucent yellow wax. The two bonus cuts on the flip were on the untitled 1991 white label 'DJ Life/Licensed To Kill' and I'm pretty sure I bought mine directly from Tufkut on discogs a few years ago. An essential UK banger if you ask me, Disorda's got some so be quick.

Suggestion Of The Week - V.A. - The B-Line EP Vol. 4

Okay, so I'm a little late getting around to this one but it was worth the wait. Another fine selection of current UK talent on show, 'Crew Dominance' by Crease & Uncle Mic Nitro is my personal fave after a couple of spins. All the cuts are well worth a listen and for 10 tracks it's a snip at £12.00. Go here for yours or here if you want to save a penny.

Mink Featuring 2wice The Trouble - Hey! Hey! Can You Relate?

I remember there being great anticipation regarding the release of DJ Mink's first outing on wax. I didn't know him personally but I had friends of friends, etc. who did and word got around. When I saw it one Saturday in the rack in Warp records in Sheffield way back in 1989 I obviously snapped up a copy - this one - and wasn't disappointed. I think some folk think he was a Nottingham or Derby lad but he was, like me a Sheffielder, (it was the two emcees K.I.D. and Carruthers who hailed from Nottingham, about an hour down the M1, saw them perform this live at the 'old school reunion' jam). One of my mates went to Mink's house once and blagged two tapes full of electro era hip hop his older brother used to play at the Limit club on Saturday afternoons. I was hoping he'd mixed them but he hadn't. He released another record with emcee Blue Eyes which is decent and I'm reliably informed that he did the scratches on Ruthjoy's first single although he's uncredited on the sleeve. His older brother, Mongoose did some pirate radio work I think but more on the dance kinda thing which I'm not interested in and he did release a few records according to discogs which I wasn't aware of until just now. Anyway, this is the first promo release, the one on Warp records came afterwards. Fon records had a small records shop almost opposite Warp's shop before Warp opened. I bought a lot from there when I was a lad and was a little sad when it closed although I wasn't generally all that keen on the prick behind the counter in there.

Suggestion Of The Week - Juice MCs - All Guns Barred

I copped one of these a few weeks back on the excellent Britcore Rawmance label. I waited for ages for a UK seller but eventually caved and got mine from Germany but Disorda's got some in right now and I'd suggest you get in quick as it's another limited press of a dope UK golden era sounding banger. Dookie Squad make an appearnace on 'Spydaman' on the flip which is the superior track for me but once again BR hit the spot with a corkin' 45 on grey marbled vinyl. Essential!

Suggestion Of The Week - Def Defiance - Hazardous

Treated myself to one of these recently and I think you'd be foolish to miss out on one yourself. Mine arrived Monday and what a great package it is too. A really well put together remastered- by Rola himself - double vinyl with bonus white label 12" single containing four more bangers that were rejected by the record company back in the early nineties. There's a concise history on the rear of the outer, outer sleeve which tells you how they met, etc. and the album itself is pressed up on shiny white vinyl. It was a no brainer for me but it is pricey at £44.99 for the lot but you can just go for the original double LP for a mere £29.99 from these guys right here.
If you're not based in dear old Blighty you can email the label direct here and there's a good seller on discogs here who's reliable and quick.
Britcore Rawmance comes with the seemingly impossible once again, their best package to date and hopefully there's more to come.
Vorsprung durch UK hip hop..

Hearts Of Darkness - A Taste Of Venom

A big jazzy double bass driven head nodder for the UK faithful is up today from a duo both from the glorious north, one from Hull and the other is a Manc I think. They had another 12" which I don't have any more but it's an easy pick up so I'll get one at some point but it's not as good as this one.
On a related note Style Warrior, (see link above right), has sadly closed it's doors but I'm pretty sure the LP they put out last year is still available and for a cut price too. Well worth your pennies if you missed it.

Floormaster Squeeze - Kick Out The JamEs

Here's an oldie for you. This is my third copy over the years, bought one brand spanking in '87 - some have it listed as '88 but I'm positive it came out in '87 - and that was traded in between about four of us over time and I never saw it again. The second was properly knackered, skipped four times in the first minute of side two so I slung it. Third time's the lucky charm they say, right? This is Overlord X's debut too I think unless anyone knows different.

G.M.P. - Hardcore Wins Again

G.M.P = Ganxta Mae-Dae Productions.
I got a white label promo of this with a sticker on the sleeve as you can see above. I always liked 'Give 'Em Some Airplay' with it's swipe at radio jocks favouring the US to the UK at the time and it still sounds good to me. 'Hardcore Wins Again' has some great lines in it too like, 'apocalypse jam (something something) no sell out, commercial mother fuckers there's the door get the hell out' - maybe I should have written 'mutha fuckas up there -  and my personal fave, 'making a track like monie in the middle, fuck that shit it's commercial drivel.' I don't necessarily agree but it makes me smile. The other three on offer are alright and 'The Arrival' is the only record I can think of right now that samples the Zombies' 'Time Of The Season' and I like that song so it's got to be a winner. I think I paid two quid for this and it's the first listen since buying it and I reckon it's a keeper.

Suggestion Of The Week - VA - Underground United Vol. 3

Another fine selection of unreleased stuff on offer here and this time it's a double. If you only buy one record this year I would suggest, looking at the track list that this is a top contender for record of the year. I don't think Disorda's got any left but you can get some snippets there and and also here and maybe order yourself a copy from here or direct from the label here. Pricey maybe, but well worth it.
